Two FingersIn Brighton lernt Joe "Doubleclick" Chapman Mitter der 00er Jahre seinen künftigen Produktions- Partner, den umtriebigen brasilianischen Beat-Bastler Amon Tobin kennen. Das gemeinsame Interesse für insbesondere britische Elektronica und Old-School-Hip Hop führt schon bald zu ersten Klangexperimenten. Kurze Zeit später wird in Montreal das gemeinsame Hauptquartier errichtet und die Zusammenarbeit intensiviert. Die Resultate überzeugen nicht nur angesehene Szene-Labels (Big Dada und Ninja Tune) - auch zahlreiche Rapper und Sänger bitten fortan um Audienz.

Nach ersten Releases auf Compilations und einer Single geben Two Fingers im März 2009 mit selbstbetiteltem Debüt endgültig dem Rest der Welt Einblick in ihre experimentierfreudigen, Genre übergreifenden Produktionen: eine massive Mischung aus Hip Hop, Grime, Dub Step und Drum&Bass-Sounds. Überwiegenden Gesangsanteil steuert der aufstrebende MC Sway bei. Gleich sieben Titel stammen von dem amerikansichen Hip Hopper.

This morning's exclusive FACT mix comes from Jeff McIlwain, the techno producer best known as Lusine.

A stalwart of the Ghostly International camp (also home to Matthew Dear and Dabrye), he's an expert at many styles - his records take in IDM, fat ambient, broken hip-hop and straight techno, and records like Serial Hodgepodge, Emerald and the Podgelism remix comp have garnered much play here at FACT HQ over the years.

This month he returns with a new full-length, A Certain Distance, his first for Ghostly since 2007. We talked to Jeff about the new album and what we can expect from it; while you're reading that, download his session for FACT, which features his own material alongside that of Boards of Canada, Fulgeance, Luke Vibert, Flying Lotus, Dorian Concept, Four Tet and more.

as we’re approaching this new year, I felt it was time to let go of some things that have been gathering dust. Some old things, and some new things, I tried to pick out tracks that I know yall haven’t heard yet so there should be surprises around every turn.

can’t believe i’ve been making tracks for over 10 years now..That said, there’s so much to learn still.

Nottingham’s Lone steps up this morning for a FACT mix of fractured hip-hop, pop, funk and more, glowing in sunlight and bleeding colour from every pore.

Lone first came to our attention with last year’s Lemurian album, and his work on Werk Discs last year – both the ‘Joy Reel’ 12” and the full length album that followed it are highly recommended – saw Matt Cutler get even better. With antique arcade games, vintage hip-hop and 80s grooves as its backdrop, said album for Werk, Ecstasy and Friends is a record steeped in childhood nostalgia that recalls Flying Lotus, Dam-Funk, Boards of Canada and more but could only have been made by Lone.

A full interview with Lone will be on FACT’s pages within the fortnight, ‘til then download his FACT mix. Awesomely mixed with material from Ghostface Killah, Mike Slott, Bibio, Prince and Lone himself, it’s pretty special.
