Oh, schön dass eine deutscher Artists ein Feature auf D&B Arena bekommt.
BLACKLABEL BEATS 3 times Best DJ in the Future Music D&B Awards - the German DJ lays down a mix, and tell us what's up with Rawhill, U3R & Blacklabel... Interview Where does the name E Decay come from? After school I worked in a supermarket called EDEKA. My friends and my family identified me with this name and I started to use E.D.K. as my DJ name. Later it developed to E.Decay. It’s got nothing to do with Ecstasy or any drugs. How did you get into drum & bass? A friend of mine went to London and brought me a lot of fresh stuff from Ray Keith, Trace, Tango & Ratty…This new, fresh sound enthused me so much, that I dedicated my musical career to it. At the age of 16 in 1995 I became resident deejay of Germany’s first weekly jungle club, ‘Vibration’. This club was a cornerstone of German drum & bass. We had about 1000 guests every weekend and artists like Bryan G., Hype, Grooverider, LTJ Bukem, JJ Frost, Randall, Moose, Navigator etc. The first German d&b rave concept was born out of this club, too. I grew with the scene and the events and I have just done my thing. U3R Recordings? In 1995 I bought the first studio equipment with my partner OCB and we searched for an opportunity to release some of our tunes. The problem was that there were no labels in Germany that released drum & bass. The only way to get the stuff on the street, was to found a label and distribute the music ourselves. To get recognition in the UK particularly was a long rocky road because the UK heads had enough of their own material. Nowadays the UK labels are more open to sounds from abroad. Today it’s a worldwide thing! Which of your records are you most proud of? Without doubt ‘Mo’Fire’ I enjoyed working with so many different artists. Whether it was with Royce and OCB in the studio, or with $pyda, Navigator, Ragga Twins, Tenor Fly and Shabba D. during the vocal session. The collaboration with Fresh and Bad Company was fun. And the video shoot in London was a wicked experience. I like to think that we have been a little bit responsible for the ragga vocal hype in drum & bass with that track. Describe your music in 3 words. For da Partycrowd What can people expect from your sets? I play mainly party stuff, good vibes music and fresh tunes. I don’t like it if a set is very deep over a longer period. I try to put a lot of different sounds and feelings in my sets and to avoid any kind of monotonously. You can listen to my sets on www.rawhill.com. How did it feel to again be voted number 1 DJ in the Future Music D&B Awards? It shows me that I’m following the right path. I have won this award three times in a row but that doesn’t mean that I’m satisfied with what I have achieved so far. There is always a new challenge for me and still a lot of work to do. There is no time to rest. What's your opinion on CD mixing? My first love is vinyl. I can understand the CDJ breakthrough though. A lot of DJs want to save their money to cut some dubs but it’s nearly impossible to cut everything on dubplate. To play with CD’s makes it easy to test the mixdown and reaction of our own productions in a club, too. But I still love Vinyl and I won’t stop buying records. To play only with CD’s. NO WAY! Whose records are you feeling most at the moment? Sub Focus has a really good vibe with his tunes. I like G-Dub & Formation too - that’s my party/mix tools. Shimon a favourite, he always comes with new ideas. Another is Die; I call him master of the rollers. The Logistics & Hospital stuff is something totally different and I enjoy playing their stuff too. And last but not least, I like playing the stuff of the Rawhill camp; Royce, N.Phect & Dizplay, AJC, Krasq’n etc. What can we expect to hear from E Decay & U3R? This summer I’m playing a lot of festivals; Nature One (Germay’s biggest Open Air Festival with 60.000 people) and Kings of the Jungle. My highlight will be Innovation In The Sun. From the label you can expect a lot of different styles, the Blacklabel series kicks off, we will release some more Rawhill stuff with the Rawhill soldiers and I have an mix CD planned alongside MC Spyda.

U3R = Rawhill = Rawhill Family. Schade eigentlich. |
