hey people,

it was an interesting evening ... i got to the Stadtgarten in Köln at around 12:30 or 12:45 and as soon as i paid the finally fought to the front of the stage and got a VERY little bit of room to myself, on came the DJ from Total Science ... WAIT a minute ... yes, there was only one of them on the stage behind the tables ... on the flyer was printed Total Science ... so where was the other dude ... ???

why didn't they just print Q-Project on the flyer? or was that dude Spinback? ... i always get'em confused. so, i spent 9 Euro to see only half of Total Science ... ok ... no big deal.

but as the first half hour went by ... i noticed something bugging me, it was the sound ... no, it wasn't the sounds, the records they guy was spinning were SUPER-TIGHT ... the problem was: instead of one drunken MC there were TWO!!!

i mean no disrespect here to the MCs (MC Killa Bee and some other guy) and maybe they are actually good MCs ... but i came, this evening, to hear Total Science ... not those two guys TRY and keep up with the beats. At least the one guy stopped (after 2 hours) ... but MC Killa Bee kept right on ranting his gibberish into the mic ... it wasn't that there weren't times when he came in and said something at the right time, it was just that he kept yapping ALL the time ... FUCKING ANNOYING ... nothing was clear, nothing made sense, he repeated the same 'homanamana'-wanna-be-reggae-mc-selekta-rudeboy-bullshit spilling words all over himself because they were too big for his own goddamn mouth ... and then, the mids and the highs 'disappear' from one side ... just like that, gone from really clear to really shitty, really quick ... what the hell was up with that soundsystem?

christ ... my night was almost ruined ... and then i bumped into a kid that lost not only his jacket, but also his backpack ... and then i thought, "i guess its not SUCH a bad night for me." what a shame ... that was a pitiful excuse for a party after the 1/2 of Total Science left ... the Pathfinder Posse came on afterward and Killa Bee didn't look like he'd EVER shut his pie-hole ... so i left.

i just gotta repeat the only thing i heard as i walked to the car: "ich habe kein bock mehr auf diese scheiss pathfinder parties ... " i think i'd heard enough for one night.

Thanks for the greetings and you know, you're exactly right about the way people have been putting names on flyers and what the hell the promoters are thinking ... but even though i'm down with your explanation for why things are written the way they are on the flyers, my main point (and actually DISappointment) were those two MCs ... my god ... it's REALLY simple, you just gotta THINK about what you're saying before you open your mouth ...

lemme reiterate this: MCs are NOT, I repeat, NOT the main reason people are coming to a party to dance. when someone takes a look at the flyer for the party, where were these two names: MC Marvelous and MC Killa Bee? were they at the top with Total Science? no. they are down at the end after EVERYBODY else.

some dude came up to me, last night, and asked why i was so pissed off ... i told him what i thought of the MCs and then he said, "..yeah, but they're freestylin' and this is their party.." -=- excuse me, WHAT? -=- freestyling usually means that someone has their own 'free style' that they're trying to represent ... these two had no original rhymes WHATsoever.

for me, personally, MCs have to be able to be CLEAR and COMPREHENSIVE when they're on the mic. Marvelous and Killa Bee were everything BUT clear and comprehensive. I, as an American, can understand both the American English, and British English ... and being into reggae and dub, i can understand what those MCs are into as well ... but when i listened to Marvelous and Killa Bee last night - I DID NOT UNDERSTAND ANYTHING THEY WERE SAYING BECAUSE ALL THEY WERE 'MC-ing' ABOUT WAS BULLSHIT! repeating the same word or same sets of words OVER and OVER and OVER again also does NOT count as MC-ing.

MCs need to know how to RESPECT the DJ when he/she is spinning and usually not be as loud as the music that the PEOPLE are dancing to, Marvelous and Killa Bee, in my opinion, showed NO respect whatsoever to the DJ ... they were just wanting to be cool, and pose, and B-Boy to Total Science because they wanted to be known as people that MC-ed to Total Science. and then they tried to do their 'MC-ing' most of the time right over the music that people were to trying to listen to ... if they had taken maybe a 5 minute pause here and there, i might have been, like, cool, whatever ... but they wouldn't shut-up throughout the ENTIRE set of the Total Science guy. Marvelous stopped about an hour or so before the end, but Killa Bee just kept on his retarded business.

i'm just totally shocked over last night ... that was so pathetic and weak from those two ... i don't like MCs in general, but when 2 MCs ruin a show for me from one of the best talents in Drum 'n' Bass ... i get angry ... if this is what the top-rated German DNB MC sounds and acts like, well, i'm EXTREMELY disappointed.

that's all i've got to say ... and as far as the scene goes, cool, i hope Pathfinder keeps pulling in big names from England ... BUT if Germany wants to start sending talent to the US and England instead of Germany always having to bring in English DNB talent for the crowds here ... the people in Germany (the promoters and bookings agents) need to wake up ... start LISTENING a little more instead of talking so much ...

yo René,

i've been here (in Germany) for 3 years already ... and yeah, i've been having a GREAT time ... the people over here are killer ... just a really different set of ideals and values than what i knew in the States.

very interesting people too, at least the ones of gotten close to ... right now, though i'm trying to quit working and start studying ... trying to get into film school over here.

we'll see what happens ... but i'm really trying to stay here longer, if i can ...

cheers!
