Suv Biography

With a reputation for being the joker in the Full Cycle pack, Suv has only recently begun to raise his profile, despite the fact he has been involved with the label since its early days.

Having previously enjoyed chart success alongside Krust in Fresh Four, Suv re-emerged as Full Cycle’s sample finder on early releases such as Roni & Krust’s ‘Daylight’. Until recently he has been content to remain in the back room developing his studio technique. Aside from his longstanding devotion to dub, Suv has been Influenced by everyone from Gary Numan and David Bowie to Madness (he was once a Mod) and has recently found inspiration in Latin music. This wide variety of musical influences might go some way to explaining the diversity and flexibility of his style.

An integral member of Reprazent, Suv collaborated with DJ Die on ‘Mankind/Music First’ and worked specifically with Roni on tracks like ‘Soul Power’ for V Recordings. However, to date he has had few solo releases. Concentrating on creating sounds which are different to those around him, Suv is often credited as Full Cycle’s ‘free beat’ ambassador for using techniques which elongate the bar structure of his compositions. 1997’s ‘Freebeat EP’, his solo debut on Full Cycle, was noted for its empirical qualities, developing the ‘free beat lick’, in which tracks manifest themselves in the 3/4 time signature specifically designed for the dancefloor

Under the alias of Reel Time he created ambient anthem, ‘Mine’ for the ‘Through the Eyes’ album which featured vocalist Virginia (previously with Smith & Mighty). He is currently working on a Reel Time album, which promises to be more accessible to new audiences and will feature various styles of music from house tempo tracks to drum and bass.

Outside his burgeoning DJ career, Suv is breaking into the remix arena, his first solo effort being for fellow Bristol bods, Jaz Klash. With two new tracks surfacing on Die’s ‘Through the Eyes’ mix; ‘Continuum’ and Alfombra Magica’, there’s a Suv solo album and more solo 12”s in the pipeline.
