DJ NYMFO RED ZONE CREW

Here is a interview, who has got a mix for me? I wanna
hear this guy playing...
You were one of the first guys stateside to make
waves in the UK. The "Trans Atlantic EP" feat you and
Pieter K on Renegade was a big success. Do you feel
the bridge is finally being gapped between the US and
the UK?
It's like this, for me anyhow. UK is the motherland of
D&B and it will always be, but there are peeps from all
over the world making sick beats and testing the sound.
No matter were they are from and as long as the tunes
are good, I really don't care if its a US or UK ting. Lets
get over it. Tunes are tunes as long as they are on.
Look at the brazileros. No one is saying is there a gap
between Brazil and the UK! Why? Because Brazil has
the shit down! So please lets not say anything about
US versus UK 'cause really it just becomes a mess and I
am not even from the US. Good is good, I don't care
where it's from! I am Colombian, it just happens that I
live in the U.S. which I love. But the question is
annoying already.
You've got a real strong release schedule for Phuturo
Recordings with tracks from yourself and remixes from
Klute and Calibre. What do we have to look forward to
from Phuturo Recordings and JuJu over the next year or
so?
I am hoping to bring a soulful, dubby, latin vibe into the
dance floor. The tunes that I have signed for the label
are mostly on the soulful tip, but phuturo is not limited
to just mellow stuff! Keep your eyes open for the
avalanche of sounds to come. I have a Delta + format
single set for December which is dope! I am finally
getting the koka remix out as well. There are tunes by
Abstract and Calibre coming as well. So the label is
definately busy with niceness.
Speaking of Renegade, the tune "Penthouse" is slated
for release on the "Renegades of Funk" LP later this
year. Also we hear you have a forthcoming mix of said
LP on Renegade... Tell us a bit about it.
Truth is that I am awaiting for the final lockdown on the
tunes that are to be on the cd. I know so far there are
things by Intalex & ST Files, the thing that Hive, Echo
and I did, a John B tune, Total Science, Sonic thing that
is dope, and tunes by Tronik 100 who are on the liquid
tip! All of it is just sexy beats and super bad, bad, bad!
"Penthouse" - which I might add is a personal favorite
of mine right now- is a collaboration between
you,Hive, and Echo under the Patois alias. Will you be
working with them on material in the future?
I am in the studio with Hive at the moment. We are
working on the harder side of things. Dubby and dark!
Hive is really on a groove at the moment, so we merge
both the vibes to see what will fly! Cool runnnings come
soon, trust!
What gear are you using in your studio?
At home I use a G4, EMU 6400, Mackie 1604 VLZ and a
DBX compressor.
Drum and bass has noticiably gone much deeper and
utilizes more vocals than ever before, where do you see
dnb headed in the future?
This is hard to answer 'cause everyone has a different
opinion. I think that the soulful vibe will definately stay
for good! Without the female element drum & bass is
basically dead. I love hard drum & bass but I need to
make the chicas bounce first! Then we can unload the
darkness. Really I dunno where the future of drum &
bass sits, but to be honest I know we will be here for a
long time!
You've been maintaining quite a busy touring
schedule as of late. Where are your favorite places to
play?
So far my favorite place to play aside from my night
Phuturo has been Hong Kong @ Cloud 9 'cause heads
there were so eager and into the music! Good vibes for
sure. In the US I have had great times in Seattle and at
Respect in Los Angeles. Good tings a gwan there!
What artists do you look to for inspiration?
Man! The Latin Fania all Stars from the 70's, all deep
dub business, and the skater punk bands from 86 on -
MDC, Bad Brains, Christ on Parade. So many good
bands that I swear it hurts my head to count them!
Skinny puppy was dope too, but I was way into the
rootsy music mostly. That was my thing.
What do you do with your time off from djing, running
the label and your Phuturo nights at the Top ?
(Laughs) I have a 21 month year old son, so I have no
free time. I spend every second possible with him, he is
my life! (I) Love that kid.
Any advice for aspiring dj's and producers?
Keep at it! Soon come!
